Francee Sherman Award Winner 2024
 Sunday, June 9, 2024

The winner of LWVHC's annual Francee Sherman Student Award is Chloe Parmalee, a recent Hendersonville High School graduate who will attend the College of Charleston in the fall. The $1000 competitive award is given annually to a high school senior who demonstrates commitment and achievement in support of our mission, "Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy." Chloe was chosen based on her academic achievement, teacher recommendations, and her essay about what issues would bring her to the election polls when she is eligible to vote.

Here is an excerpt from Chloe's winning essay:

Even though I'm still new to the voting process, I'm dedicated to becoming more aware of issues that will affect the polls, and society. As I vote for a new democracy I will take into account what the candidate has done in the past to shape the future, but also what issues they are willing to focus on and what relates to me the most.

Issues that bring me to the polls are social justice, health care, inflationwith prices, and corruption of government.

We congratulate Chloe and wish her the best in her future studies!
