Recently the Henderson County Council on Aging distributed A Report on Healthy Aging in Henderson County. The publication is 24 pages and may be download from the Council on Aging website, www.coahc.org. In addition to the report there is a report entitled, Aging in Henderson County: A Report to the Board of Commissioners (11 pages) and An Aging Action Plan for Henderson County (6 pages). The last two documents are available at the Council on Aging offices at 105 King Creek Boulevard in Hendersonville. The purpose of these reports is driven by the demographic fact that Henderson County is one of the counties in North Carolina where those over 60 are more numerous than those under 17 years of age. It is projected that by 2030 the number of adults in our county will be roughly 30% of the county’s total population.

Citizens can download A Report on Healthy Aging in Henderson County from the Henderson County Council on Aging website, www.coahc.org. This report offers a demographic analysis and aging projections for our county. In addition the reader will find a map representing citizens 65 years of age and older in various townships of Henderson County. This report also gives a review of methodology used to arrive at the recommendations of the report. There are a number of graphs spotlighting certain information for the reader, including specific demographic information and some opinion questions as they relate to perceived need and location of respondent in our county. Throughout the report the Council on Aging demonstrates its ability to bring together interested partners to work at finding solutions for concerns facing older adults.

There are six goals outlined. In this action plan the Council on Aging reenforces interest to build community partnerships to find solutions for needs of older adults in our county. These partners include: the Henderson County Board of Commissioners; the Department of Social Services Board; the Council on Aging for Henderson County; the Healthy Aging Coalition for Henderson County; and the Land of Sky Regional Council.
