APRIL 2010

April 4, 2010

"Stormwater" is the water that runs off hard surfaces such as roads, roofs, graveled and graded areas. Growing evidence that urban stormwater runoff is a major contributor to water pollution across the nation resulted in federal requirements that local governments establish stormwater management regulations and implement stormwater management plans. The federal government has delegated supervision of monitoring that requirement to the state. Currently our local municipalities and county government operate under these regulations, either accepting state management or adopting local stormwater regulations. The focus of stormwater management is to protect our streams and the safety of our drinking water while ensuring that we protect the quality of our water for current and future use of this resource. The Board of Commissioners is currently working on a local stormwater management ordinance.
